Why I Fight for Justice
Years ago, I became a lawyer to fight for justice: to stand up on behalf of people who have been left out, kept down, or victimized by the powerful. Throughout my career as an attorney and a local and state lawmaker, I have remained true to that fight. I have fought for every San Franciscan’s right to an affordable, safe home. I have defended the civil rights of women, immigrants, people of color and our LGBTQ community. I have stood up to corporations defrauding consumers, undermining workers, and polluting our planet. The fight for justice has shaped the course of my life—and led me to the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office.
For generations, San Francisco has been a national leader in the pursuit of justice for all. That proud history is why I chose to live here, work here, and raise my family here. The San Francisco City Attorney’s Office has established the gold standard for public law offices in that pursuit. As City Attorney, I will continue that proud tradition by fighting for every community who calls our city home.
