This Monday marks the second anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson, the decision by Trump’s Supreme Court that denied millions of Americans the right to reproductive freedom.
In the past two years, countless women have been denied life-saving medical care, have been forced to travel out of state to get the care they need, and have had their lives upended by the uncertainty and fear created by the decision.
In California, we’ve worked tenaciously to secure the right to reproductive freedom. In the Legislature, I championed the Reproductive FACT Act, which required health clinics to inform patients about reproductive health services available in California, as well as authored a law sponsored by Planned Parenthood to ensure patient information is kept confidential when sensitive health services are sought.
When Roe vs. Wade was overturned, my City Attorney’s Office and I teamed up with the Bar Association of San Francisco to launch the Legal Alliance for Reproductive Rights, a network of 70 law firms providing pro bono services to people seeking and providing abortions around the country. In the meantime, our Office has worked hard to advise City departments on the changing legal landscape, support and draft state and local legislation, and join amicus briefs on important cases.
On this second anniversary, we recommit ourselves to the fight. Last month, I was honored when Planned Parenthood Northern California awarded me its Acts of Courage award, and we’re going to continue the fight until everyone everywhere has the freedom to make decisions about their reproductive health.
I’m running for re-election as City Attorney to ensure every San Franciscan has reproductive freedom. Can you donate now to support our campaign?
Sincerely,
David
