As we reflect on the brutal wildfires, heat waves, rolling blackouts, and orange skies California experienced this past year — not to mention the continuing drought conditions this year — it’s never been more clear: we need to act boldly to fight climate change.
This is a global issue, but California could be doing much more to lead the way to a clean energy economy and a sustainable world. The good news is we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to do that — just 20-30 miles off of California’s coast — if we harness the untapped potential of offshore wind.
That’s why I introduced AB 525, which would finally jumpstart an offshore wind industry for California, by putting us on the path to producing 10 gigawatts of 100% clean, renewable energy by 2040. Click here to add your name and support the bill!
This initiative is a no-brainer for California. With tested, proven technology, it would help us meet our ambitious clean energy targets, set a national example of bold and innovative thinking — and, as we need to put Californians back to work, create thousands of highly-skilled, good-paying jobs.
We have no time to waste when it comes to combating the climate crisis. It’s critical we pass this bill this year, and get to work transforming our energy systems here in California, the world’s 5th largest economy.
